A couple days ago we broke out our 4th of July decorations, which mainly consist of things that are handed to us at our town’s 4th of July parade. I hadn’t put much effort into this holiday, until now! Chloe insisted that we have something festive on our table and I agreed. So together we made this super easy table runner, which turned out pretty cute!
Here are the supplies we used:
- scissors
- felt (2 pieces each of red, white, and blue)
- buttons
- thread
- needle
- star template
The how-to:
1. We began by finding a star template online that we could use. 
2. Cut and Trace and Cut some more! Chloe cut out the star and we started tracing it on the back side of our felt. We traced two stars on each piece of felt. Then, Chloe and Willow cut out all the stars.
3. Arrange, Pin, and Sew! Next, we arranged the stars together to make our table runner. I pinned each star in place and we got ready to sew them together. For this part, Chloe chose a bunch of white buttons from our button can. She and Willow are really good at sewing on buttons, so my job was just to prep each one for them. The buttons were positioned at any place where the points of the stars overlapped with one another, or “wherever they are holding hands” as I told the girls. Easy, huh?
Now, this part could be done using tacky glue if you are opposed to sewing or want to be finished faster and could be done with or without the buttons.
When it was all finished, we put it in it’s rightful place in the center of our dining room table. This project cost a very modest $1.50 to make (I had everything except for the felt in my sewing stash), although I did upgrade half of my pieces of felt to the glitter coated kind, which increased my project cost to $3.75. But it gives it a great sparkle, and if ever there was a holiday to sparkle, this is it!
