Squishy, Sparkly, Pepperminty…Organic Play Dough Recipe

We have been sick around here…again.  I get so sad when my babies are sick.  I just want to fix it!  They are now recovering nicely, so yesterday we decided to make some play dough.

When I merely mention the words “play dough” in our house every one cheers!

I found a great recipe online a couple years ago for organic play dough.  It’s so easy!  And when the girls happen to taste the “cookies” they make, it’s not a big deal.

  1. 2 cups of baking soda
  2. 1 cup of corn starch
  3. 1 1/2 cups of water

Mix it together and cook it on the stove (stirring continuously) until it is of play dough consistency.  Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator to avoid mold.

Our special play dough ingredients also include:

  1. food coloring
  2. peppermint extract
  3. glitter

So, we measured and mixed and added our special ingredients. First, we decided to make our dough red.

Then we let our play dough ingredients simmer on the stove and we stirred and stirred and stirred.  The red in the dough became a bit pink.  So, then we decided to change it to purple.  :o)

It is super hot after all that simmering of course, so we let it rest on the counter for a while, and that’s when I added the glitter.

The girls played for over an hour with the dough.  They rolled and cut and made “cookies” (which made me think maybe we should have just made cookie dough, although last time I let them do this with cookie dough it had fuzzies in it…), built snow men and elephants and fish.  So much fun.

They had a blast!  And, the cleanup was super easy.  I just sprayed the table with our vinegar spray and it wiped right off so easily.
