Breakfast

Very early in the morning, when many kids are still asleep, mine are creeping quietly around the house.  I am woken by whispers and the occasional clanking of dishes.  And then, a little face will whisper ever so closely to mine, “Mama, come out and see.”

And in the still of the morning, I come out to see what has been happening.  My sweet little girls have made breakfast.  Scrambled eggs, fruit, sometimes toast or left over banana bread will be waiting on the set table in serving dishes.  Three times in the last month I have woken up to this special treat.

And my sweet girls….what kind  and loving hearts they have.  The night before they lay in bed and plan this special breakfast.  When I come out to see their act of love, they each show me what they added to this surprise.

The first time they made breakfast, Chloe said to me, “Mama, thank you for all you do for us.  Thank you for feeding us and for keeping us alive.  We made breakfast because you always make us breakfast, and so today you wouldn’t have to. We love you, Mama.” A nine year old said those words.  And knowing her, that is what they talked about while they planned.

There are no words to express how grateful I am for these children.  God has blessed me more than I could ever share.  Each one is a miracle and a gift who, by God’s grace, I am able to enjoy and love every day.  When the moments of grief and frustration come, I am thankful that I these treasures are present in my life.  This morning I am celebrating my children, each one for his or her abilities, sweet spirit, and loving heart–for what makes each child so special and individual.  Those qualities that make them each so wonderful are innumerable–those special things that make them who they are, that God placed in each one of them.  This morning, I am a happy mama, filled with a sweet peace that can only come from Above.
