If you should happen to pay us a visit on a Wednesday, our kitchen buzzing and filled with delicious aromas, for Wednesdays are baking days in the Ferguson house.
Baking days began because all three of our girls love to bake and cook. They love every part of it from beginning to end (including clean up!). In fact, it’s Chloe’s plan to become a chef when she grows up, and while she’s only just approaching six years old, she has been telling us this for two years so we thought it best to nurture her marvelous aspiration. This week alone Chloe has made lunch for her entire family by herself twice. She is amazing in the kitchen and does seem to have a talent for it. It’s so fun to watch her plan a meal and then execute it.
But back to baking day….we like to start baking day with a super yummy breakfast of something like pancakes or this week, french toast! Oh my goodness! French toast with homemade bread…blueberries and strawberries….I am looking forward to reliving that delicious moment sometime very very soon. It was a hit for all of us. Uh-May-Zing!
The fun thing about baking day is that it’s something we can all do together. It’s also something that helps with what I’m sure you know by now I fully support: self sufficiency and positive self efficacy. Yay!
Willow requested apple sauce this week, so we made some with 2 dozen apples.
Look at those chubby little hands spinning the food mill! Yes, we do have a food processor, but it won’t work those muscles like a food mill will.
And then we got to work on the rest of our list of culinary tastiness (except for the laundry detergent. We didn’t eat that.). There is always a pause to clean up before moving on to the next recipe. We take a breather to play and nibble and do our daily activities. Wednesdays are always fun days. And if you do ever happen by on baking day, bring your appetite! You’ll need it. 🙂
