I know I’ve said this many times, but you really never know what you will find at the beach. It’s always different, even though it’s the same beach we visit all the time. The changing of tides and seasons make the beach change with them. Different types of shells come around and the beach itself changes shape to accommodate the flow of the water. Seasonal changes bring about different animals and new excitement for beach visitors.
Yesterday we visited once again. I love how immersed Chloe and Willow become the moment we arrive. They run onto the beach and the discoveries begin. I’ve thought about doing our school activities on the beach, but it would just take away from the way they naturally explore and learn, which would detract from our purpose there.

Laelia ran and ran down the beach, as fast as she could in the sand to chase away the flock of seagulls that was playing on the shore. She spent the better part of our time doing this, for most of which I didn’t have my camera. But I did catch her with one of them later on. She ran down the beach to chase this bird as I used my telephoto lens to capture this moment. After he flew away, she turned to look for me and I read her lips through the lens of my camera as her little mouth said, “mama.” Her discoveries are so much more simple than those of her older sisters. And while they love to explore on their own, she still wants mama right there beside her. These are the tiny moments in my day that warm my heart and fill me up.
