Cinnamon Ornaments

I love cinnamon ornaments!  They are so much fun and they smell so yummy!  I remember making them in 4th grade and for some reason I have such a great memory from doing that with my class.  I’ve thought about it here and there since, and this year I found the recipe.  Needless to say, I snagged three super cute helpers and we tackled this project together.  DSC_0021

The recipe is so easy!  Equal parts applesauce and cinnamon.  Mix the dough with your hands and get rolling!  We found we needed lots of cinnamon to sprinkle on our dough since it was super sticky, but cinnamon smells so good, none of us minded.  🙂  DSC_0024DSC_0028

Okay, so not every project goes well from start to finish.  I have a rule for the girls that they must follow during our projects.  While I want them to participate and be creative, there is no grabbing of the things in our work space.  It gets so chaotic and can at some times be dangerous for them to grab things.  It also makes me crazy…we had a lot of grabbing this time.  I usually give a warning or two but if it continues, the grabber has to sit it out for a while.  It makes me sad to ban them, but when 6 (soon to be 8) little hands are grabbing at everything in our work space we can’t get things done, let alone get things done and have them turn out nicely.  All of this to say that there was some grabbing.  Willow and Laelia had to sit it out for a few minutes.  I ended up just giving Laelia her own dough ball because she just couldn’t help herself.  I think she just needed that touch and feel experience and she was quite happy after she had her cinnamon dough ball.  🙂DSC_0031DSC_0032

Our ornaments turned out great!  We let them dry on the counter for a couple days and then strung them onto some ribbon.  Some of the ornaments are gifts for family from the girls.  Others were added onto the Laundry Detergent Gifts in a Jar that we prepared a couple days ago.  DSC_0083DSC_0084

I think we’re going to make this something we do each year!  I was thinking how cute it would be to stick a little rhinestone in the middle of a heart or star next time.  I’m sure Chloe will come up with ideas for next year too.  🙂
