Cakes

Cakes are something I’m trying to get better at making.  I really enjoy being in the kitchen.  And cake…well, cake is just fantastic.  I’ve made lots of cakes that I have not shared with you.  Now, I’m not amazing at it, but I do have a lot of fun baking and I plan to keep practicing (with no complaining from my household, I’m sure.  They’re cake-eaters).

Recently, for absolutely no reason at all, I made these Chocolate Fudge Peanut Butter Cup Cupcakes, which I had seen a picture of on Pinterest. The picture was all I needed to see.  Yum!  I am going to tell you that I have tasted a lot of cake in my lifetime.  I’ve never tasted cake as amazing as this.  NEVER!peanut butter cup cakepeanut butter cup cake

Okay so chocolate fudge cake, with peanut butter topping drizzled on the cupcake (you can either make your own, which is super easy to do or buy the PB ice cream topping (2 bottles per 24 cupcakes)).  Next, top the cupcakes generously with chocolate frosting.  Drizzle once more with PB topping.  Cut open a mini peanut butter cup and place it on the top.  Now, the reason I cut open the peanut butter cup is so that it literally looks as if it has exploded into a cupcake.  Because that just sounds (and is) amazing.  Mmmm…

Oh, also, one of the things I work really hard to do when baking cakes is to be sure to pull them out of the oven at the precise moment that the cake is done, but also when they are super duper moist–in a heavenly way.  There is nothing more terrific in the land of cakes than a moist cake.  Over done cake just does not bring forth the same burst of “Oh. My. Goodness!” as does a deliciously moist cake.  With that being said, this takes knowing your oven and knowing what a deliciously moist cake looks like.  I’m not a timer person.  I use my eyes and my nose.

My husband and I both come from families with severe chocolate loving tendencies.  It’s nothing to be alarmed about, but you will see a few chocolate lovers delights in here.  For Scott’s birthday this past year, I made him a messy chocolate cake.  The Hershey’s kisses are filled with caramel.  Oh, since I’m pregnant, it’s possible you might see an increase in food posts (ha!).messy chocolate cakemessy chocolate cake

A couple birthdays ago, Chloe had a Candyland themed party.  It was so much fun.  She wanted her cake to mimic the game board a little bit, so I played with fondant for this one.  I do not like fondant.  I think it tastes horrible.  Although sometimes it can produce something beautiful.  This cake wasn’t exactly beautiful, but it was fun.candyland cakecandyland cakecandyland cake

I also attempted another fondant cake when Scott turned 26.  I thought it turned  out cute for my first try at fondant. fondantfondant

And here is a cake for one of the girls’ fairy parties.fairy birthday cake

The next cake on our list is one of my favorites.  Another chocolate lovers cake for a lovely lady in our family.  This is not just a cake.  This is a cake surrounded by chocolate goodies–brownies, cookies, and chocolate covered strawberries.  If you’re gonna do it, do it right, ya know?!chocolate lovers cake

Okay, my latest cake I made this past weekend for my sweet niece Ana for her 7th birthday.  Her roller skating party deserved a cake to match.  Here’s the problem: Ana’s favorite show is Cake Boss.  Need I say more?  Well I’m gonna, just in case you aren’t familiar with Cake Boss.  He is the king of cakes and makes them with absolute perfection and grandness.  So, I knew this cake had to be pretty good to say the least.  Here is my go at that.rollerskate cake, roller skate cake

Well, there you have it.  Hopefully my skills, like wisdom, will increase with age.  Feel free to link up any of your cake creations for everyone to view!
