As I mentioned before when we were getting ready to decorate for the fall season (find that post here), all of our fall decorations were lost when we moved. So, the girls and I have been slowly building our fall décor. Today, we made a fabulous Halloween wreath. If it’s one thing I LOVE to make, it’s a wreath.
Items you’ll need to get started:
- A grapevine wreath
- Black spray paint
- Silver spray paint
- Scissors to trim ribbon, lace, and whatever else you choose to include on your wreath
- Hot glue
- Ribbon, lace
- Feathers if you want them
- Flowers if you want them
We started from scratch by pulling our grapevine and weaving the wreath ourselves. The girls worked together pulling the vines and we brought them home. They did a fantastic job removing all the leaves while I wove them to form a very fun, oval shape. This wreath turned out exceptionally whimsical. We had big vines and little vines, some were wrapped loosely and some a little tighter.
After about a week of letting it dry, I spray painted it a flat black and dusted it with a silver spray paint to give it a little pizzazz.
Now, it gets even more fun! Because if you are like me then you like to try to make a project without spending any money. Instead, I like to find whatever I might have in my craft bins to add to a wreath like this. I found lotsa great stuff today—feathers, ribbon, lace, silver curly things, and a scarf.
With my glue gun warmed up, I began placing and gluing. I began with a fabulous silver scarf that I’ve had for about 8 years and I originally got at the dollar store. I tied it into a bow and then draped it around the wreath and glued it in place. Over the scarf I put some black ribbon and I topped the bow part of the scarf with a black lace bow. Layers are always fabulous! They keep things spicy!
Then I started placing the other items around the bow. I like to place them and get an idea of how I want it to look before gluing. Then I glue them all in place one by one. This seemed to come together very well. It turned out to have kind of a funky elegant vibe to it—and FREE, but you’d never know it to look at it.
